Not quite certain if the title is the actual name of the restaurant (because it sounded so literal), but if it really was then they seriously know how to roast a fish right up to the bones. We got introduce with this humble restaurant by our dear Chinese friend Max out of asking if we have tried the famous “baked fish” in Dalian. Being the curious food adventurous couple we are, told him I think we have tried such dish once when hubby and I went to Beijing last April. But our friend anxiously convinced us that this dish is different and no one else can bake anything like it in Dalian, unless if I will visit Sichuan province to taste the original ones. Carried away by his strong words, we just said to him 2 words – surprise us!
And indeed, we were deliciously surprised. Off course this was not my initial reaction when it was served, was terrified to eat even a potion of it with all the chili, peppers, red sauce and other atomic bomb like spices in it. Sichuan food is known to be notoriously hot, its their signature taste but after I gathered up the courage of tasting it I could tell the dish will not make your tongue swell and numb or blow smoke from your ears. It’s just one heck very tasty dish! No doubt its spicy but at the same time sweet entirely because of the juices from the fish. What’s even more amazing its cooked perfectly enough that you can nibble through the bones. Red sauce is bearable, some would like to pour it on top of the rice but I prefer dipping the fish in it.
I think this falls in one of the must try when you visit in Dalian, China.
Verdict: ❤❤❤❤ – The Best! They top all criteria from my perspective; authentic food, great service and value for money. This was our comfort food.
